Masked Hunter
The Masked Hunter (Reduvius personatus) is an insect belonging to the assassin bug family. This name came to be because of their ability to camouflage themselves with dust. The nymphs are covered with a sticky substance that collects their sand, dirt and dust accessories. This dusty little bug is a mighty predator. Their preferred menu includes woodlice, lacewings, earwigs, bed bugs and termites. While it is not common they can bite humans. The bite of the Masked Hunter is comparable to a bee sting which can cause swelling that lasts for a week. They are commonly found in homes with bed bug infestations but we’ve been seeing them in wood piles recently. Keep an eye out for this interesting character!
